Anxieties

When it comes to my anxieties i think one thing that i worry about is not doing things right. I worry about not reaching the target that i was given and failing. To improve this i need to have more belief in myself but also structure whatever i am doing in the future so i am able to make sure i can do it right.

S.T.A.R Method

S- Situation, setting the scene

T- Task, what was my role in the situation

A- Action, what steps I took to fulfil the situation and my role

R- Result, what have my actions achieved? End on a high note

Example 1

Tell me about a time when you have shown leadership skills.

Situation - in my previous digital marketing job, the company wanted to get more people to sign up to a newsletter which was not receiving a lot of attention.

Task - my job was to find a way of getting more people to sign up.

Action - I organised a meeting with other important members of the marketing team to come up with creative ideas, and I led the social media campaign to generate interest in the revamped newsletter.

Result - over a period of 3 months, there was an 25% increase in sign-ups to the newsletter and the approach I took was used by the management team in other departments.

Example 2

Give me an example of when you faced a problem at work. How did you handle it?

Situation - I was working in a florist shop with the manager and we were arranging an order of flowers for 2 weddings. The manager, who had taken the order, had mixed up the customers’ addresses and the flowers were delivered to the wrong venues.

Task - I had to get the flowers to the right place and apologise to the customers.

Action - I told my boss that I would deal with the mistake, leaving her to take care of the shop. I spoke to both customers on the telephone to explain, and reassured them that we would put things right straight away. I drove to both venues, swapped the flowers in time and apologised in person. I gave both customers a voucher for a bouquet as compensation.

Result - the customers were grateful that we had acted quickly. Later on, they both came back to the shop to spend their vouchers and have since recommended us to their friends.

Telephone Skills:

First impressions create lasting memories, whether positive or negative. It only takes seconds for someone to decide if they like you or not. These decisions are formed by their impressions of simple actions. A pleasant greeting and a positive attitude will set the stage for each call. The use of effective telephone skills creates a positive image for the entire practice. When all staff members consistently use appropriate telephone protocols throughout the practice, positive impressions will be created and customer satisfaction will be enhanced.

My career plan.

The cinematographer (also known as the director of photography or DOP) is the head of the camera and lighting department on a film set.

It’s the cinematographer’s responsibility to use lighting and compositional techniques to bring the story to life on screen. The cinematographer will work very closely with the director to plan out the films visuals so that they captivate a film’s audience.

This job role is highly diverse requiring a mix of both technical and creative expertise. It will take many years of practice to fully master this role, however it could prove to be a very interesting career The cinematographer will be hired by the producer and occasionally the director (if they have worked together previously and have a good working relationship).

The relationship between the cinematographer and director is crucial. They will work together closely throughout the project and it is their job to bring the directors vision to life. During pre-production, the cinematographer reads the screenplay and envisions how the film could be shot. They will attend pre-production meetings with all other head of departments and be present on location recces. They will also hire the camera, grip and lighting team alongside the producer. Before production, all major decisions on the films visuals and cinematography style will be finalised.

Writing a formal letter.

Addresses:

1) Your Address

The return address should be written in the top right-hand corner of the letter.

2) The Address of the person you are writing to

The inside address should be written on the left, starting below your address.

Date:

Different people put the date on different sides of the page. You can write this on the right or the left on the line after the address you are writing to. Write the month as a word.

Salutation or greeting:

1) Dear Sir or Madam,

If you do not know the name of the person you are writing to, use this. It is always advisable to try to find out a name.

2) Dear Mr Jenkins,

If you know the name, use the title (Mr, Mrs, Miss or Ms, Dr, etc.) and the surname only. If you are writing to a woman and do not know if she uses Mrs or Miss, you can use Ms, which is for married and single women.

Ending a letter:

1) Yours Faithfully

If you do not know the name of the person, end the letter this way.

2) Yours Sincerely

If you know the name of the person, end the letter this way.

3) Your signature

Sign your name, then print it underneath the signature. If you think the person you are writing to might not know whether you are male of female, put you title in brackets after your name.

Be concise

State the purpose of your formal letter in the first paragraph and don't veer from the subject. Try to avoid flowery language or long words. Keep the letter short and to the point.

Vigorous writing is concise. A sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts. This requires not that the writer make all sentences short, or avoid all detail and treat subjects only in outline, but that every word tell.
